THE MUSIC SESSIONS

The music sessions were recorded at several different studios, and on a variety of formats. Fortunately most of the original tapes still exist in the ITV library, and a commercial CD was released by Silva Screen on May 15th 2006.

Not every episode was scored. Some used music from earlier episodes; even earlier series! Barry built a collection of six library music tapes culled from the sessions, which would then be used where appropriate.

Some of the music can be remixed in 'stereo', as it was recorded on ½" 4-track tape. Sadly, Barry was frugal with his pennies, and would often re-use these tapes after they had made a master 'mono reduction' onto ¼" tape - so some of the original session tapes are lost forever, recorded over with sessions for The Secret Service and UFO.

N.B. If an episode is listed as having been recorded on ½" 4-track tape, this does not necessarily mean that the original session tapes still exist - the only remaining copies may be ¼" mono reductions.
